In-Person Experiences
Guided Tours
Students can build critical thinking skills while viewing the museum’s current exhibitions. Museum docents use Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) to facilitate student discussions of art and encourage students to form thoughtful, observation based responses. Studies show that VTS increases student’s visual literacy and critical thinking skills.
Self-Guided Tours
Groups have the option of planning a self-guided visit to explore our exhibitions. Advance reservation is required. Information about current exhibitions is available at the front desk or from our educator.
Writing and Sketching in the Galleries
For no additional charge add a sketching or writing activity to your tour. Contact our educator to select an activity that matches curriculum needs. Pencils and sketchbooks no greater than 18”x24” are allowed in the galleries.
Art Making Activities
Led by teaching artist or the museum educator, these hands-on classes combine a specialized tour with an activity in our Maker's Space. Classes are arts integrated and align with standards. $75/ hour flat fee per 25 students plus the cost of admission. Please schedule two weeks in advance.
Full Day Arts Experience
Plan an all-day art field trip. Students will visit both the Hilliard and the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The day will include a hands-on art activity.
Custom Designed Tours and Activities
Are you looking for STEAM activities? Or do you want your students to apply a newly learned literacy skill by engaging with the arts? Our educator can work with you to create a custom tour or activity that meets your curriculum needs. Please call well in advance to schedule, so that the educator has time to collaborate with you.
